Frequently Asked Questions
What is a crypto heatmap?+
A crypto heatmap is a visual representation of the cryptocurrency market where each coin is shown as a rectangle. The rectangle's size represents the coin's market capitalization (larger = higher market cap), and its color represents the price change (green = price up, red = price down). It provides an instant overview of market sentiment and which sectors are gaining or losing.
How often does the heatmap update?+
This heatmap updates automatically every 30 seconds for price and change data, and every 5 minutes for market capitalization data. You don't need to refresh the page — the colors and values update in real-time.
What do the colors mean?+
Deep green indicates a strong price increase (8%+ in the selected period). Light green shows a moderate increase. Gray means the price is roughly unchanged. Light red indicates a moderate decrease, and deep red shows a significant drop. Use the 1h / 24h / 7d toggle to change which time period the colors represent.
Why is Bitcoin always the biggest tile?+
Tile size is proportional to market capitalization (or 24h volume when toggled). Bitcoin has the largest market cap in crypto (typically over $1 trillion), so it always occupies the most space. Switch to Volume mode to see tiles sized by trading activity instead.
How do I navigate the heatmap?+
Use the scroll wheel (or pinch on mobile) to zoom in and out — zoom targets your cursor position. When zoomed in, click and drag to pan around the map. The +/- buttons control zoom, and the 1:1 button resets to the default view. Press and hold any tile for 3 seconds to open that coin's price page — a progress ring shows the countdown, release to cancel. Use the search box to find and zoom to a specific coin. On mobile, tap a tile to see its details.
