Read quantity and contract multiplier first

KuCoin futures and spot margin are different products. For a linear USDT-margined perpetual, price P&L is measured in USDT; a coin-margined inverse contract uses different mathematics and settlement assets. Check the exact symbol, contract multiplier, order unit, expiry status and current margin tier. A displayed '100 contracts' does not mean 100 BTC. Read the current specification even when the app lets you enter an equivalent coin or notional amount.

Account access, balance and margin mode

Confirm identity verification and derivatives eligibility for your residence and account before depositing. In the futures account workflow, transfer accepted collateral to the correct balance and verify it is available. If your account uses a unified arrangement, inspect which balances and positions are shared instead of assuming an isolated futures wallet. Choose cross or isolated margin deliberately and inspect any automatic margin replenishment setting; isolated margin with later additions exposes more than the original allocation.

    Open only the intended exposure

Select the contract and check one-way or hedge position mode. Enter the desired quantity and Limit price, inspect the converted notional, fees and initial margin, then review the order before submitting it in a demo environment. A resting limit may remain unfilled; partial fills require protection sized to the executed position. Monitor mark price, maintenance requirements and funding. A trigger on last price need not fire when a mark-price liquidation threshold is reached.

Reduce, close and check for leftovers

Use the current position's close function or the appropriate reduce-only control. In hedge mode, confirm the side you are reducing: an opposite opening order can leave both long and short positions. Check filled and remaining quantities, then review open and conditional orders. Closing a position does not by itself transfer collateral out of the account. Reconcile the actual fills and funding records before judging the result.

    A contract-unit P&L example

Illustration: if the selected linear contract represents 0.001 BTC, 20 contracts represent 0.02 BTC. An entry at 50,000 and exit at 51,000 USDT give 20 USDT gross long P&L: 20 × 0.001 × 1,000. Substitute the actual multiplier from the contract specification; it can differ by instrument. Subtract both trading fees and net funding paid, then other applicable charges. An unrealized P&L display can exclude costs, so a positive number there need not mean the closed trade is profitable.

Derivatives & Leveraged Products — Important Risk Warning

Derivatives and leveraged products are complex and carry a high risk of rapid, substantial losses. Depending on the product and account rules, losses can exceed the initial margin or money committed. A stand-alone purchased option can lose its entire premium plus transaction costs; writing options, exercising into another position, or combining positions can create additional obligations. An uncovered call writer can face unlimited loss. Applicable legal protections can affect the loss boundary.

You should carefully consider whether you understand how derivatives work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. This content is for educational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to trade derivatives.

Legal availability and regulatory protections depend on the product, service, provider and jurisdiction. In the EU, check the applicable investment-services rules, including MiFID II where relevant, and any product restrictions. Before trading, verify with the relevant regulator whether the provider has the permissions required for the service and whether the product may be offered to you. A website being accessible, or a product appearing on this website, does not establish authorization or eligibility.
