What is Zcash?
Zcash (ZEC) is the native coin of the Zcash network. Read this price page with its selected currency, data timestamp and chart period in view. A converted INR or USD value is a reference quote; it does not establish an available fiat trading pair, deposit method or execution price. Volume measures completed trades, while the spread and order-book depth affect a new order.
Zcash supports transparent and shielded transfers. Shielding limits what transaction information is public, but does not guarantee anonymity, device security or acceptance by an exchange. A Unified Address can contain different receivers; the sender must support a compatible one. ZIP 257 documents the 2026 Orchard vulnerability, temporary suspension and corrective NU6.2 upgrade.
Check current wallet and service instructions before transferring. The issuance rules and NU6.1 funding model also distinguish network mechanics from investment returns.
Key Features of Zcash
- Shielding has a defined scope: Shielded transfers can conceal transaction details from the public ledger. Transparent endpoints, shared viewing information and data held by devices or services can still expose information. Cryptographic features do not make every transfer untraceable.
- Proof of work and block targets: Zcash uses proof of work. Under the post-Blossom, pre-NU7 rules, the target is 75 seconds per block. That is an average, not a deposit deadline. Upgrade proposals and testnet releases do not by themselves change Mainnet rules.
- Development funding: NU6.1 introduced an allocation of 8% of the block subsidy to community grants and 12% to a coinholder-controlled fund. These fund ecosystem work through grant processes; holding ZEC does not automatically pay you that revenue.
Zcash Use Cases
- Compare the ZEC market: Compare prices in the same currency and period. For market capitalization, use a dated price and circulating-supply estimate from a consistent source. A large volume figure does not guarantee sufficient depth for your order.
- Choose a transfer’s privacy properties: Check whether both wallets support the intended shielded transfer and what information becomes public at either end. Keep payment records appropriate to your needs; shielding does not determine your legal or reporting obligations.
- Move ZEC between compatible services: Verify the network, exact receiving address, current deposit status, minimums, fees and required confirmations. A ZEC listing does not mean the service accepts every Zcash address or source of funds.
Zcash Tokenomics
- Total Supply
- Zcash’s designed maximum is 21 million ZEC. This is not the current circulating quantity or a guarantee of scarcity-driven appreciation.
- Circulating
- Use the market-data provider’s dated circulating-supply figure. Coins in shielded pools remain ZEC; moving between transparent and shielded pools does not by itself create new supply.
- Utility
- ZEC pays network fees and transfers value. Block subsidies support miners and the funding streams specified by the active protocol rules. Simply holding ZEC does not earn native staking rewards.
- Emission
- Blossom reduced the block target from 150 to 75 seconds and doubled a full halving interval from 840,000 to 1,680,000 blocks, preserving an approximately four-year duration. Later upgrades may change block parameters; a calendar estimate is not a guaranteed activation date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I earn native staking rewards with ZEC?
Zcash uses proof of work. A platform’s ZEC lending or yield offer is a separate product with its own custody, withdrawal terms and loss risks. A research proposal or testnet upgrade is not evidence that native staking is available on Mainnet.
How should I read Zcash’s price today?
Check the timestamp, selected currency, 24-hour change and chart period together. Compare executable spread and depth separately. A supply cap, privacy technology or past rally does not establish a future return.
What determines the minimum spot order for ZEC?
The minimum depends on the platform, trading pair and order type. Check both the minimum quantity of ZEC and the minimum order value in the pair’s quote asset. The price of one coin is not the minimum purchase amount. Check current trading rules and fees, and confirm that the service is available to your account and location.
Does a local-currency ZEC price mean I can trade that pair?
No. Conversion is a reference calculation. Confirm an eligible service’s actual spot pairs and funding methods. ZEC/USDT uses the USDT token as its quote asset, not a US-dollar bank balance.
Are all Zcash transactions untraceable?
No. Transparent transfers expose information publicly, and shielding has limits involving endpoints, disclosures and software. A Unified Address alone does not prove that the actual transfer was shielded. Review the transaction method and current wallet guidance.
Does a ZEC listing establish that I can use the service?
No. Availability depends on your location, account, product and the service’s current rules. Trading access and deposit or withdrawal support are separate checks. This price page does not establish permission under local law.
What should I check before storing or transferring ZEC?
Check the wallet’s current software, recovery method and exact address support.
