How to read a crypto heatmap

Start with the selected metric, timeframe and legend. Price-change colors and funding-rate colors answer different questions.

    Three observations and their limits

Similar colors. In price mode, many green or red tiles show that many displayed coins rose or fell over the selected period. This does not identify a macroeconomic cause or predict a reversal. Check the observation time and compare the same period. In funding mode, green means positive funding, not a price gain.

Different colors across groups. Large and small coins, or two sectors, can show different price changes. That comparison does not establish capital rotation or identify who bought. Market cap measures valuation, volume measures trading activity, and open interest measures outstanding contracts; none of these totals alone traces money moving from one coin into another.

An outlying tile. Check its signed percentage, observation time and available price history on the coin page. A strong color does not establish a listing, token unlock or other cause. Investigate those explanations with separate evidence; the tile does not establish liquidity or future returns.

Market cap, volume and sector heatmaps

Market-cap sizing shows relative valuations; switch to 24h volume to compare reported trading activity. A larger volume tile does not mean more money flowed into that coin. Group by sector to compare areas such as DeFi, meme coins and Layer 1 networks. Keep the same timeframe when comparing sectors, and use the signed percentage on each tile to check the size of a move.

⚠ One honest limitation: a heatmap is a snapshot, not a chart. It shows where the market is, not how it got there. Before trading a pattern you spot here, open the coin's page for the actual price history — and if you trade it with leverage, know your liquidation price and position size first.

    Keep exploring

Full sortable list: all crypto prices. Market mood in one number: fear & greed index. Derivatives positioning: open interest and funding rates.

    Common questions

    What is a crypto heatmap?

A crypto heatmap shows the coins we track in one picture: every coin is a rectangle, its area follows the coin's market capitalization (or 24h volume, if you switch), and its color is the price change over your chosen timeframe. One glance tells you what is pumping, what is bleeding, and how broad the move is. The default view is the top 100 by market cap; 'All' shows every tracked coin — a few hundred, not the whole market.

    What do the colors mean?

Three red shades mark declines, a neutral gray marks flat moves, and three greens mark gains. The bucket boundaries adapt to the timeframe (a ±7% day is a big move; a ±7% month is quiet), and the legend under the map lists the current boundaries on every screen size, phones included. A value exactly on a boundary belongs to the bucket the legend says: '< −7%' is strictly below −7%, '−7…−3%' starts at −7%, and the neutral band '±0.5%' includes both of its edges. Every larger tile also carries the signed percentage, so the exact number never depends on color alone — deliberate, for colorblind readers too.

Can I change the timeframe or what tile size means?

Yes. The buttons above the map switch the color between 1-hour, 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day change, tile size between market cap and 24h volume, and the coin count between the top 50, the top 100 or every coin we track. There is also a sector view that groups tiles the way the market thinks — Layer 1s, DeFi, memes, AI and so on; sectors below 1% of the displayed value are folded into 'Other & small sectors' so the map stays readable. Each view is a plain link, so you can bookmark or share any of them.

What does the crypto funding rate heatmap show?

The funding view recolors the map by each coin's Binance USDⓈ-M perpetual funding rate, annualized from the latest interval rate (0.01% every 8 hours ≈ 11% a year), instead of price change. Positive funding (green) means long positions pay short positions at each settlement; negative (red) means shorts pay longs. Funding is a price-premium mechanism, not a headcount: it tells you which side is paying to hold, not how much leverage is open or how many traders sit on each side. Neutral gray tiles have valid funding within ±2% a year; the darker gray tiles have no Binance USDⓈ-M perpetual for that coin, or no funding reading in the current feed — the legend names which.

Why is Bitcoin usually the biggest tile?

In the default market-cap mode, tile area follows market capitalization, and Bitcoin's is the largest in crypto. Two honest caveats: area is approximately proportional — every tile gets a minimum size so the long tail stays visible and clickable, which gives the smallest coins a little more room than a strict share would; and market capitalization is a valuation (price × circulating supply), not money that has been invested. In volume mode the biggest tile is whichever coin traded the most in 24 hours, and the 'Total market cap' and 'BTC dominance' figures above the map use the whole market as their denominator, not just the tiles shown.

How fresh is the crypto heatmap data?

The heatmap shows stored observations, not streaming exchange ticks. Binance supplies price updates and derived market caps for matched coins; CoinGecko supplies broader market data, including volume and 7-day and 30-day changes. These fields refresh on different schedules. The market observation time is the newest coin update, so it does not mean every coin or field was refreshed together. Funding has its own observation time. Reload to request the newest stored snapshot; there is no background auto-refresh. When a feed fails, older observations can remain visible.

How do I dig deeper than the tile?

Hover any tile for the detail card, or click through to that coin's full price page — charts, market stats and the coin guide. The download button exports the map at rest as a PNG with the view, legend and observation time in its footer. Prefer numbers in rows? The live prices table lists every coin we track, sortable and searchable.

Is this a Bitcoin liquidation heatmap?

This market heatmap compares coin performance: tile size represents market cap or volume, and color represents price change or annualized funding. A liquidation heatmap instead estimates the concentration of potential liquidations at price levels. Use our separate liquidation heatmap for that model and read its assumptions; neither visualization predicts future prices.
